Title: Error forestcolor map with vrayproxy
Post by: HotelVerse on October 17, 2023, 10:55:27 am
Hi,

We have a problem with map Forestcolor and vrayproxy. In this video we´re showing a test scene. The vrayproxy has a material with a ForestColor, the idea is create differents color with random mode. We´ve a forest for distributed some trees, the problem if we have the vrayproxy in preview mode, the forest only use one map in all the leaves, but if we changed the mode to show whole mesh runs perfectly.

For us it´s a problem, because we don´t want increase the number of polys in our scene.

Do you know any solution?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I'm sorry, but there is a limitation when using the VRayProxy object(s). Generally, we suggest using poly or mesh models. Internally, Forest converts all items into native instances of the render engine, making it as efficient as using proxies. You can find a detailed technical explanation here (https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/should-i-use-meshes-or-proxies-with-forest-in-v-ray/). Additionally, using XRefs would be recommended in many situations. Please feel free to check this "Best Workflow for a very large scene with Forest! (https://forum.itoosoft.com/forest-pro-(*)/best-workflow-for-very-large-scene-with-forest!/msg13782/#msg13782)" thread, where you can find some more tips for dealing with heavy objects/scenes. I hope you'll find it interesting.

Best regards,
