Freeze all turns itself back on
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:13:10 AM »
I have all my foliage in an xref'd scene. I'm not sure when it happens, but most of the time, Freeze All FP Objects gets untoggled (maybe it happens after rendering a frame?), and viewport performance goes to hell!

I'm using the recently release 3.4.1

Sorry, but i cannot reproduce the issue here:

- Do you use XRef-Objects or XRef-Scene ?
- Is the camera clipping enabled in Forest ?, Where is the camera, in the XRef or in the main scene ?

Hey Carlos, I tried replicating the issue in some test scenes using a similar setup and the same FP settings with no luck. I'll give it another go when I get some time or after this project is finished (21st Feb). Narrowing down things is harder than it seems!

I really wish I could track down what's causing this! It's plaguing the project. This one scene takes 9gb just to open it!!

Hi George,

Please, send us a test scene using a similar setup. This will help us to reproduce the problem.

Although we have not reproduced this issue here, we just changed the mode how this parameter is handled. The next beta will include this modification.

Anyways, please note that this parameter is not persistent. It's not saved in the scene, but reset to off when Max is restarted.

Hi Carlos,

I look forward to testing the new version. I tried for a second time to strip the scene down to its elements but couldn't reproduce it. I didn't know it wasn't persistent. Is it possible to make it persistent or have an option to disable viewport drawing all together?

Sorry, but i guess Max doesn't include any procedure to save a global parameter with the scene. This also would introduce some instability issues in the Forest behaviour.

You can try disabling the camera clipping options, so the Forest objects have not to be rebuilt when camera moves: Uncheck 'Auto assign to camera view', click 'Clear' camera and use the 'Copy' button to assign this configuration to all the objects.

Alternatively, you can move all Forest objects to a hidden layer.
