Feature request - User paths better
« on: December 07, 2018, 10:26:20 AM »
Hello,

Is there a chance to add an option to set all paths for the forestpro on the network and not on the local machine? Since max scene is linked with the project folder and mxp inside it this creates a huge mess for us when we send distributed render over a backburner. If some scene was saved without proper paths (who knows when) all the paths on render nodes are now reset to that old mxp.
We have tried to have one project folder for all workstations in the studio (since we are not using max in that way with projects folder). But this does not help.
So for us, the solution will be to have an option to point the locations needed for the forest on the network during an installation.
Is this possible?

Regards,
Boris

You can do that. Not during the installation but after that.
Please take a look into this thread.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. I think that the procedure from the provided link has solved the issue. However, forest asked on each workstation to add the path with the new network location. Is it necessary or we can ignore it? Please see the attachment

Cheers,
Boris

One more thing. After this reg editing when we save preset named "default" in the general tab, render nodes are not rendering forest. I didn't test with another name.

Cheers,
Boris

Could You describe Your situation in more detail and write steps how to reproduce an issue.

Generally we suggest this procedure to troubleshoot issues of distributed rendering:
Do You have library assets installed/shared in all computers?

First thing to try is to make a scene of plane and teapot and scatter teapot on that plane.  Create slow bruteforce rendering settings so all computers can join in rendering on time.
This way You will find out if ForestPack is working across Your network. If it renders teapots with all nodes then Your assets are not installed/shared correctly.

Many tips can be found in this topic with few links going further which are useful to troubleshoot distributed rendering issues.

Hope this helps. If You still need help after reading mentioned posts please share what You did and what (is)/(is not) working for You.
