I have a problem where I don't know how to do it best.
I have to create a facade with flowerbeds, they are on top of each other, vertically aligned.
Now when I have a column of vertical overlapping splines, Forest only populates the first spline.
Whats the best way to handle this situation?
thanks, Marc

Forest handles the splines in 2D, so by default it doesn't create overlapped items. There are two ways to fix it, both using surfaces:
a) Using XY Surfaces:
- Create one surface for each spline (for example, applying a UVW map modier), and assign them to Forest (Surface rollout)
Note: You must create several surfaces, because in this mode a same surface object cannot have overlapped faces.
b) Using UV Surfaces:
- Same as before, but there are not restrictions with the overlapped faces. So, you can attach all the surfaces in a unique mesh.

Thanks, I managed to do it with UV surfaces.
I have to figure out how UV surfaces work though...the distribution map is no longer used apparently and I'm getting regular gaps between the plants.
With XY Surfaces I can't get it running, as soon as the surfaces are on the same XY space but different height the Forest object will only populate one.

If that helps, please use the attached scene. I have included both samples of XY and UV surfaces.
When using UV surfaces, be sure that the mapping coordinates have the same scale on U and V (for example, checking it with a checkbox map).

Thanks for the test scene. It works great, but I have a problem with my specific scene file, where it doesn't.
I think there is some kind of scale issue. I can't get rid of the gaps when I'm in UV mode, regardless of the distribution map scale.
Please have a look at the max file, if you can.
Thanks, Marc

It is strange, i don't get those gaps here (FP 3.6.2). What Forest version do you use, 3.6.2 or the beta ?

I'm using ForestPackPro371b.

Yes, it seems a bug of the beta with the UV coordinates.
We will check it, until then you should use individual XY surfaces.
