forest animation tutorial

Anyone tested the scene from animation tutorial?
I have issues with rendering and cannot get any use of this scene. It looks like animation take too much PC resources and 3dmax just freeze
I put all render settings to low, I changed grass distribution density to 100m and camera clipping to 50m - only after this I managed to render 1 frame.
After I uncheck Animate Only at Render Time 3dmax freeze again... so I just cannot check how animation works. (((

Could you please provide some small part of this scene with lower settings, or keep just couple grass bunches - so it's possible to test.
My PC is i7 3930K 3.2Gh, 16gb RAM

Your computer maybe too limiting as mine. 
My PC at home is I7 3770k 3.4Ghz,32 GB RAM, GTX770. The 3dsmax often crashes or freeze when I uncheck the  Animate Only at Render Time in order to check the result of animation in viewport.

I get a better performance of viewport navigating in the computer in my office.  But it's still too lag in viewport navigating when I want to check the animation.
My PC in my office is 2 x X5680, 32GB RAM, Q4000.
The 3dsmax always use only one core to calculate the animation in viewport. I wonder what kind of computer the developers of iToosoft use. Thanks.

yes, that's true
maybe we can ask support to provide some small scene with just a few animated trees and grasses

Thanks for reporting this and please accept out apologies for these issues. We have been running some tests here to try to isolate the problem and it looks as though it is related to the non-GrowFX grass patches used in the scene.

The Grass patches are themselves Forest Pack objects with animation randomisation, and it's nesting these inside another Forest Object that's causing the renderer to hang. The other animated objects in the scene should work fine. We're looking into this to see if it's a Forest Pack issue, and meanwhile we'll try to locate an alternative for these grass patches and replace them in the scene. You may also find that baking out the Grass patches to VRay or Alembic Proxies and using these instead solves the problem.

I know it's not much help if you don't have the plugin but just to provide the info, the GrowFX version works correctly, rendering at about 11 minutes per frame using GI Single frame and uses approx 9gb of RAM.  This remains steady for subsequent frames. None of us use especially powerful computers and we try to ensure that all our tools and tutorials work on modest hardware. For example the tutorial itself was prepared and recorded on an overclocked i5 with 16gb of RAM and a 560ti.
