Title: Forest color map get id from element Problem
Post by: damien11235 on April 10, 2017, 10:59:44 AM
hi,
i am facing the following issue, i am unable to get the result i want by setting forest color to get id from element.
i would like to get each leaf to get a different color, the entire leaf. now the leaf is made up of multiple polygons, but when i select the leaf in the sub-object mode using the element sub-object mode it is selected as 1 object. so from what i understand the entire element should get one iteration of the forest color, but forest pack treats each polygon as a separate element and assigns a different iteration of the map used. this creates a leaf with multiple variations of texture maps/ colors withing a single leaf, which is not wanted,
is this the default behavior, if that is the case then in my opinion the behavior is wrong.
i am attaching a few images to make what i am saying clearer.
kindly let me know if there is any workaround for this or if i am doing something wrong .

Thank you,

Hi,

Would you mind to send us (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3648.0) your scene to check it here? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

have emailed the file. i seem to have found the issue. I was using vray proxies as my geometry. this causes the issue, it works fine with normal geometry as far as i can tell.
i have attached the proxies as well as the meshes in the file for your review.
the model is from your green wall tutorial.
Now the issue is, is there any reason for it not to work with vray proxies. i understand the issue might very well lie with vray and not with forestpack. and it would be preferable for it to have the same behavior  with  proxies as with model.
the reason for this is that in a studio environment some people do not realize it   have the setting for import kept to import the mesh instead of xref to scene. and before you know it the file size balloons up to 200-300 MB all because of merged trees. if they are proxies then the issue of file size becomes irrelevant.

Hi,

Thanks for provided scene. Well, for technical reasons the Forest Color map feature Map / Tint by Element isn't supported on proxies. As mentioned in our on-line reference guide (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Forest+Color#ForestColor-Maps):

"To use Map and Tint by Element, you must use VRay or Mental Ray and standard meshes as Custom Objects, other type of objects as proxies are not supported."

Best regards,
