vray RT and random colors...
« on: November 22, 2015, 09:04:44 PM »
Any idea how to get random colors in vray RT (cuda)? RT does not support Forest color tex, so I tried vraymultisubtex (random by node). When I render locally all is fine, but if I try to add in other GPUs via DR, things go haywire. Looks like non-local GPUs are rendering the wrong colors. I realize this is a problem with vray - not forest pro, but is there some sort of workaround?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for contacting us. At the moment I only have one GPU here to try it on so it's tricky to work out what's going on. Could you let me know more details or a screenshot  to help me check if there's a workaround at our end. When you say the wrong colours do you think it's that each render node is producing it's own random values?

It would also be interesting to see what happens if you convert the Forest object to instanced geometry using Forest Tools . If the problem still exists after conversion then the issue may have something to do with V-Ray RT's implementation of Forest Pack.

Thanks!

Paul

Just to add that there's a recent thread on the Chaos forum about MultiSubTex maps support on the GPU in which the following is mentioned:

Quote
VRayMultiSubTex has partial GPU support in 3.30.01 - up to 12 maps and not all random modes are supported.
MultiTexture GPU support is coming too (not sure if it is in the beta however).
UserColor and UserScalar are also supported in 3.30.01.

The thread is here.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Thanks - I'm actually following that thread on the vray forum and posted another thread in the RT problems section. I got this response...

Thanks for the report! We have fixed that for the stable release.

In the meantime you can try MultiTexture (in the GPU you have to have at least one texture set in its TextureManager in order to work; this detail is fixed for 3.30.01 stable and you will be able to set its mode to "Use Color" without having any dummy textures in the Texture Manager). I think you could also try VRayUserColor, but it would be a bit more manual work.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the update, glad to hear it sounds like the issue is solved in the next stable release.

Many thanks!
