Forest edge (once again) not working
« on: June 12, 2025, 05:26:30 pm »
So this is a basic setup, using Common grass 01 large. I put the Forest Pack Icon, I defined a surface, I activated area, set a distribution (full), set it to edge mode.

At first it seems fine, calculating light cache, looking like the first screenshot (grass01).
But then it just throws the edge mode out the window and renders like in grass02.jpg.

What's going on? It's such a simple setup.

Using 3ds max 2024
Vray 6 2.1

Hi,

That’s really strange. I’ve just done a quick test with the Edge Boundary Checking feature using Forest Pack Pro 9.2.4 and V-Ray 6 Update 2.1, and it renders correctly on my end. Please feel free to send us your scene, and we’ll be happy to check it here. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Hi. I did a few more tests before sending you the scene and I noticed something. The problem was caused by the atmospherical VrayToon-effect that was active in the scene. You can exclude your forest from the VrayToon-Effect so you don't get the outlines, this works fine with trees and bushes. But VrayToon will somehow prevent the edge mode from working, even if you exclude the forest element.

Bottom line: you can't use edge mode for Forestpack when you have VrayToon active in the scene, even if you exclude the Forest element from the effect, edge won't work.

Do you agree?
