Forest Groups
« on: November 17, 2014, 11:34:15 PM »
I do find these plugins amazing, but at the same time so frustrating and fiddly at times.

I'm having a problem, created a scene in 3ds max, there are a number of panels within shoe box style room. These are instances and not copied geometry. So I group the completed room, then I want to add the object to iforest which now supports groups. Selected a spline and all the positioning is all over the place. The frames on the walls are all lined out in rows and the walls are all broken apart and in sections. What?! how can this be happening.

I would use Railclone but that doesn't support groups as far as I know. I can't merge the geometry and parts are VrayLight Geometry. Has anyone experienced the group issue in iforest and maybe a workaround. Just trying to use it here for more than just scattering trees and grass.

Many thanks

When you add a group and adjust the global scale it scales each object around its own axis as if it was ungrouped, shouldn't this scale the whole group surely?! Come on......frustrating

Hi,

Groups are supported, but for a different feature: to create clusters of objects that must be scattered together (e.g. clumps of grass and flowers). In this case, each item is handled as an independent item. You can see an example of use in the Forest 4 demo reel.

As mentioned in our on-line reference guide: "Do not use groups for objects that must be handled as a unique object (for example a tree and its leaves). In this case, attach all the individual parts into single mesh."

Kind regards,

Thank you for replying. I understand that and know of the reasoning and am aware of the online reference guide, much appreciated. It would also be a great feature to be able to have this control on groups where a single mesh cannot be applied to the geometry. As mentioned in this example the room is made up of complex vray light meshes as well as contains animated elements. A tick box option to scale all elements around a single group axis would be great.

I've used a workaround anyway, by scaling the referenced group object, this scales the group within the plugin, if anyone has this issue also, this workaround works great.

Thank you
