Forest + GrowFX
« on: December 04, 2018, 08:54:50 AM »
Hi all,
I would like ask about using forest with growfx
I know this combo is very powerful for animations but do i get extra resources/speed, save ram etc. using growfx objects instead of meshes? - i am not asking about randomisation or vertex shading :)

I just wonder if i can save some space on my hdd :)

Thanks for help
Michal

In general using GrowFX is another great tool to have. There are pros and cons to using it. Biggest of advantages- infinite variations easily editable tree.

I did quick simple, non scientific at all test:

File with 3 growFX-trees.
FileSize: 3MB
Time to open scene: 45sec
RAM required to render: 8.5 GB
Time to render: 3:47

File with same 3 mesh-trees.
FileSize: 390 MB.
Time to open scene: 10sec
RAM required to render: 7.5 GB
Time to render: 3:44

RC+FP+GrowFX - love this combo :)

Thank you very much for test!
Simple - 3 trees and 1GB RAM more. So I am wondering about really heavy scenes ( more than 15 m polys, displacements, PBR etc.
