Forest pack add-ons and render node?
« on: November 25, 2021, 05:24:06 AM »
I bought the following add ons:
Bushes and Flowers 1
Field plants and grasses 1
I am setting up another PC to use as render node only, to speed up renders.
I installed 3ds Max on the node but have not activated it because I do not have enough Licenses to run it.
I am thinking 3ds Max will work on multiple non-activated computers as nodes like V-ray does?

I installed Forest Pack Pro and Rail Clone on it already.  Do I need to install the above add on packs onto the render node PC so I can use distributed rendering?

Hi,

There‘s no need to „add - map“ these assets within the Forest Pack plug-in on render nodes from the UI. Just please configure on all render nodes corresponding paths to these assets stored in the 3dsmax.ini. The ini file is located by default here:

C:\Users\<yourUsername>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\<your3dsmaxVersion>\ENU\3dsmax.ini

Also, generally, we recommend resolving all references used by Forest to absolute UNC paths. It's not necessary, but usually, this way you avoid any texture path issues while using distributed rendering.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Thank you.
I found the ini file. It's super long and ends like this.

"Dir99=L:\3ds Max Models\BBall Max\basketball_max\baseball_textures
Dir100=L:\3ds Max Models\Nissan Rogue 2021\Nissan_Rogue_2021_max
Dir101=L:\3ds Max Models\MaxTransAm\transam77 max
[RenderOutputDirs]
Dir102=.\renderoutput"

Do I just need to add the path to the assets as Dir102 or 103?
