Bitmap issues
« on: October 10, 2012, 05:31:07 PM »
I'm trying to get a forest to follow a bitmap, and that worked perfectly, for a while.

Say I want the forest to follow the checker pattern shown in black and white on the attached image. Why is the forest (in Purple) then choosing to follow the checker, but a much smaller version of it?

A UVW map is applied to the box which has the checker pattern applied, that is set to be the same size as the box. So the forest should follow the same size of the black & white checker. I can't see why the forest is following the same small shape.

At first a real tree map (dots over a materplan) was used and all seemed well. When I've opened the file again I noticed the pattern was there, only much smaller. The issue does appear to be linked with the geometry in the file some how. The box is drawn in max not imported, I've imported everything into a new scene - still get the issue. Try is a new scene with no geometry and it'll work as intended  ???

New test reveals the issue isn't linked to geometry in the original file.

New scene, new box, new forest - follow bitmap all looks ok. Save close and open and the forest is following a smaller version of the map ???

The base is a rather large 1000x750meters if it helps..

Please try adding the bitmap as a texture map, and assign it to the "Map" slot in the Distribution properties, instead the "Bitmap". Also be sure to set the map channel below it.

Note: the UVW coordinates are taken from the Surface object, and it is not updated automatically if the terrain changes. There is a Reload button in the Surface rollout to update it.
