Sub object will not be selected
« on: October 10, 2013, 12:44:44 PM »
Hello,

in the GEOMETRY MENUE want to add an CUSTOM OBJECT, which contains several subobjects. I already made a GROUP, but when I try to pick the group, only one of the subobjects is selected, not the group !
I´m a beginner in 3ds Max, thank you for your help.

If the group must be handled as single element (as a tree), you must attach all objects in an unique mesh.

Although Forest supports groups, they are handled as individual elements (basically to create clumps of grass, flowers and so). You can see a sample in the Forest 4 demoreel. In this case, groups must be selected by name.

That`s not the solution in my case:
I import a car model ... when I import the car model as a group like it´s demonstrated in the demo reel you mentioned, the four wheels, interior etc will be distributed separately .  I want to keep the car in one piece, of course. What can I do ?

As i said, if the object is used in the distribution as a solid element, you must create an unique mesh attaching all group elements, before assigning it to Forest.
