Forest Pack Pro / 3ds MAX 2014 Crash when editing Painted Areas
« on: November 07, 2013, 11:30:55 AM »
Hi,

i have this issue in combination with HD Plants Bush_1 and Flowerbush_3.

I have a several forestobjects in my scene - the problemchild is the forestoject using these two plants with painted include areas. To paint a area is no problem - but each time i'll try to edit or change the painted area for this 2 plants the program crashes. I tried to delete this object an create a new one with these 2 plants -> same crash when editing the area.

Does anybody know this problem?

I'm using 3ds Max 2014 64bit with MentalRay on a WIN7 pc.

Please, send us the minidump file to support@itoosoft.com to investigate the cause of the crash.

Thanks for the minidump. We have identified the crash point, but we need to reproduce the problem here.

I've done a basic test using these plants but it seems to work fine. Please, send us a stripped scene with your Forest object, including the problematic Paint area.

Ok but it's about 90MB - do you need all forestobjects ( 5 objects ) in there or only the problem child?

Is it possible to upload it in my User Panel ? Because it's still to big for my mailaccount.

We need only the problematic object and its references (custom objects, surface, splines and so). Please, send the file by a web sharing service as WeTransfer, to minimize the e-mail's size. Also it's a good idea to check if the problem is reproducible yet in the stripped scene, before sending it.

Reduced it to 30MB .. i deleted some forestobjects on your froze/hidden forest layer but it's still crashing. I wonder if it's due to the names of this objects ? Thought i saw 2 objects on this layer with identical names ?!?

I'll put the file on our server and send you the link.

No, the duplicated names is not a problem. Forest uses a separate property to identify each model in the templates layer.

The crash happens in the function that prepares the paint contourn for editing, so "theorically" it should not has relation with the models. It's strange but i cannot reproduce the crash here using exactly the same Forest and Max version (see image). Please, would you check again if the problem happens also in the stripped scene ?

Hi!

Strange... as i deleted the trees / flowers / bushed_back templates i've saved it and tried to paint and it crashed - but did not reopen it for a second try. As i tried it today it's not crashing, sorry about that!

I sent you a new link to the full-forest-file - this IS crashing.. i swear :-)

P.S.
As i added some flowers to the problem-forest-object and a new forest-object with trees to "stripped" version, it crashed again while trying to edit the problem-objects area after i created the tree-areas.

We can reproduce the crash here using your latest scene. I'm debugging the problem, i will post here as soon as we have more information.
I apologize by the inconveniences.

YEAH - i'm supposed to be a guy for rare bugs :-\

It's not crashing -> but it was only a quick test. A working test should follow soon - but thank you so far !!!

The Plugin tells me now that there is a update to 4.1.3 available - so i should not update it, did i get this right?
