Boundary Checking for "Exclude" Splines
« on: November 06, 2018, 03:56:59 PM »
I'm in need of clean edges around some features inside of my scatter area.  On the exterior, I would use the Edge Boundary Checking mode to achieve this look, but it appears that this option is unavailable when I set the splines to "Exclude".  Is there a way to work around this or to create a workflow that will achieve the same result?

Hi
Thanks for question. I will try to explain and illustrate.

If You want to use exclude with edge mode- You need to use Include with edge mode in the first place. For this to work do not use Surface Area. Disable it.
Create new Spline area as include and set its Boundary checking as Edge.
Then You can add exclude area:

Hope this works for You.

Ah, okay.  So edge mode is universal for the entire FP object then.  I was assuming it was a separate option for each individual Include/Exclude spline area.

Your method works, but I'm going to have to reconfigure the scene.  I'm scattering a massive amount of grass clump objects (nested FP objects) onto a terrain and so using edge mode for every spline created a 5.5 hour "Transforming Vertices" stage of the VRay render.

Edge mode should not be used with massive areas where loads of items are cut.
Feel free to reconsider your setup: in example use it only where camera is near.

Is there a way to make edge mode only apply for near-to-camera splines?

My current plan is to just create a smaller FP area around the splines that I need crisp edges on, and then tie that FP object into the larger grass field FP object.

You can create areas and use multiple Forest Pack objects.
