Is it possible doing this in Forest pro Pack ? See my attachment. This is a test scene for a large area of forest with the growth of trees.
There are different kinds of trees in the forest. So some kind of trees grow faster, and some kind of trees grow slower.
My idea is to use the map of surface to trigger (just start the animation, not mapping frames of animation from map) the animation of the trees.
I try to set the Animation Mode to "Frame from Map". But the growth animation of some kind of trees are longer and some of them are shorter, I can't get the exact end frame of all kind of trees.
Another problem is the frames of animation is mapped to the Grayscale of the MAP. Keeping the Growth animation of all kind of trees at normal speed is extremely difficult !
I want all the trees grow in normal speed. The animation of all trees are trigger by the map or something else. Is it possible in Forest pro Pack ? Any workaround? I hope you will help me. :-\

Hi,

Regarding the animation speed:

If you don't want to remap the animation, the map used within Forest Pack's Animation rollout shouldn't be animated - as this way values are changing during the time and it causes, that the animation will follow actual map values. Unfortunately there is no way how to avoid this behaviour.

To get something similar you could use "Random from Map" animation mode instead of "Frame from Map", as this uses a map to define the absolute frame within a Start/End range.

The "Random from Map" option works similar to Random Samples, but using a map to define what animation sample to get for each item.

For example, by setting Samples=4, Time=10, a black pixel in the map will take an animation sample at frame 0, a white pixel at frame 30, and interpolated samples for pixels in the grayscale range. The UV coordinates are taken from the surface assigned in the Surfaces rollout.

If you will move the animation start of your object from frame 0 towards (for example 50) this way you can offset the animation start.

Hope it helps you.

Kind regards,

Thanks for the reply. I tried. But this is not my purpose. All Trees grow randomly. See my attachment.
I want the trees in black area DO NOT grow until the area turn white. Their growth or not growth are supposed to be controlled by the map on the surface.
And all trees must grow in normal speed. Please modify my scene, many thanks.

Hi,

I´m afraid it's not possible to use for this purposes animated map (as mentioned above) and actually there is no way how to archive the desired control over the animation.

Anyway, attaching modified scene file, as suggested before, for use of the "Random from Map" mode. It's not the solution for use "map as animation trigger", but it could help you as the effect is similar. The Gradient Ramp map can't be animated otherwise it will have influence on the objects animation.

Kind regards,

Thanks for the reply again. Yeah, this is almost what I want. But It's very hard to control the start time of growing of each trees by the greyscale level of the map exactly.
I want to make a animation that the growing trees acting like a pen painting on the ground. Maybe I should give up doing this in Forest Pro Pack. But Forest color only works on Forest Pro Objects. What a mess!
