Forest Pro on workstations without it..
« on: July 24, 2013, 02:53:23 AM »
If I have Forest Pro, but someone else does not, how does it work? Do they install the rendernode version and are able to render FP, but not manipulate it? Or what?

Also, is it the same for Railclone Pro?

Not exactly. Although the render nodes don't require a license, you are not authorized to copy the software to third parties, even for rendering purposes. They need their own Forest or RailClone Pro license.

If you need the services of a render farm, the following companies has official support for our plugins: http://www.itoosoft.com/support/renderfarms.php

Alternatively, you would convert Forest or RailClone items to stand-alone instances, using Forest Tools and RailClone Tools respectively. In this way, scenes can be exported and rendered without the plugins. Anyway, this technique is much less efficient that rendering directly, and is limited by the number of objects that Max can handle.

My situation is that I work with 3 other people. They don't have FP or RC (yet ;)) but I do. I'd like to use it in my scenes but only if they can open the scenes and work on them too (but obviously not on the FP or RC bits). Is this possible?

No sorry, it's not possible. Although Max allows to load and save a scene without the plugins installed (they are displayed as "missing"), probably that would generate corruption issues.

What about creating your Forest/RailClone in a XRef scene ? In this way they would work in the main scene separately.

That may be an option, thanks Carlos.
