Thanks for the log. Although it shows geometry was not rendered, we cannot see what happened exactly with Forest.

I will modify our MR shader to generate some extra information about Forest. Hopefully that will help to diagnose the problem.
I think it can be done for next beta update.

Just to be sure we reproduce same conditions here: what Max and Backburner version do you use ?

I am running 3ds Max 2016 with SP3 and extension 2.  My workstation only has Max 2017 installed for testing so it also has Backburner from that install.  I'm currently using Forest Pro 5.0.5

Hi Carlos,
I am using max 2016 sp3 ext 2 with backburner 2016 and Forest Pro 5.1.0. I haven't had a chance to run the test file on my farm yet. I'm in a crunch time right now with lots of renderings queued up. I'll try to get to it soon.

Hi, we just released Forest Pro 5.1.3 beta with additional log options.

To enable logs, just set General->Log Level to Debug in one of the Forest objects, before sending it to render (local or Backburner).
This update doesn't change anything in Mental Ray, but may help us to identify the rendering problems.

There are two logs. One generic for Max at:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\<max version>\ENU\Network\Max.log

and other specific for Mental Ray in Rendering->Render Message window (local rendering), or included in the Backburner logs. For backburner, just be sure to enable "Info" level as shown in the attached image.

Logs are created locally for each render node.
Please, install the update and send us the log for nodes which don't render correctly.

Thanks,

I installed the beta and now get an error that the license needs to be updated.

Please, contact directly with our helpdesk from here.
I see one of your licenses is not renewed. That may cause problems because it will not work with the later FP releases.

Thanks.

I reproduced the missing trees by removing and then adding a render node to a job while monitoring the logs.  I don't see anything useful.  Maybe you will.  The bad frame is 845.

Is there any way to modify the settings for the <max version>\ENU\Network\Max.log file?  It does not keep enough information to capture more than one frame.  I had to let the node render one frame and immediately stop it to capture as as much as I did.

Thanks for the logs. Checking them i see that Forest object is not built in frame 845. For some reason, it's skipped by Max.
No idea why happens that, but at least i know problem is not in the Mental Ray shader. We'll do some tests trying to reproduce same issue.

Log settings are defined in Customize->Preferences->Files->Log File Maintenance, or editing 3dsmax.ini at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\2016 - 64bit\ENU:

[Log File Maintenance]
Log Type=15
Log File Longevity Type=0
Number of Days=30
Log File Size=256

Good news. Using your procedure of removing and adding a render node, finally we could reproduce the problem and fix it.

The bug is fixed in Forest Pack Pro 5.1.4 beta. Please, test it and confirm if works correctly on your render farm.

Thanks,

I have tested this over the last couple of days and it does appear to be fixed.  Thank you very much.  This has be a very frustrating and time consuming issue.

I just wanted to confirm that the problem is fixed in my renderings. Thanks for testing and fixing!
