Forest Pack paiting on a surface
« on: August 26, 2016, 08:29:35 PM »
Hello dear people from the forum I recently started using Forest Pack Pro and I was wondering how do you start to paint on a surface from scratch? What I wanna say is it possible to start painting on a surface with forest that doesn't already have scatterd items on it? I managed to do it when I first made a Forest item on a rectangle near the surface and then in the surface rollout I attached a plane on which I was able to paint then by adding a new paint area. But is it possible to do this from without the so called "hack" I used?

My 2nd problem was that I had several plants selected in the geometry rollout, and when I pick one of them to be painted in the new paint area the brush is not working like a painter instead it is revealing regions where the plant is scattered. What I want to say is that when I paint I see new areas forming but the plant is not showing on each click and I get empty areas and after a few clicks I see the plant show. It looks more like plant revealing then painting? Can some1 help?

Best,
Sofia

Think I have solved my problem by watching the BARN tutorial and by moving the scale down. Does moving the scale down affect the scale of the object or it affects only the scale of distribution only?

Hi,

The recommendable work-flow would be to create a Forest pack distribution using the surface you want to paint on (you'll double check the density). This Surface Area can be easily disabled by unmarking the On check-box and a new Paint Area can be added (attaching screen-shots).

I suppose you're referring to the Distribution Map "scale" - changing Density values doesn't affect items scale.

If you prefer to place directly items instead of painting the distribution Area, using the Tree Editor - Custom Edit mode "To manually add individual scatter items" would be right tool. Hope you'll find it useful.
