Discrepancy between Point cloud & Proxy Box
« on: February 23, 2017, 04:48:16 PM »
This happens with vray proxies scattererd with forest.

Attached is a top view of a row of office desks (red rectangle show the location where the desks should be placed)

It renders like the point cloud, but when displayed as box, the objects get an offest. When looking at the complete building, we have boxes popping all over the facades. While it is only a display issue, it give the false impression an incrrectly placed objects.

I think I messed up at some point with the pivot of the VRayproxies, but while the forest still behaves correctly, the display/proxy/box of forest is messed up. I tired to realign the pivot of the Vrayproxies, but it got worse (nor the forest proxy box nor the actual were correctly placed) Only solution was to recreate everything from scratch.

It's the second time it happens to me, so I guess I'll ask here if it's an know issue and if you have a quick solution to fix this (instead of redrawing everything :) )

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. This happens because Box mode always aligns the pivot to the centre of the box, it is in effect substituting the high resolution mesh for a simplified box with a pivot at it centre. Whereas points-cloud display is a representation of the actual geometry and so displays correctly. I'll pass this on in case it is possible to offset the box's pivot based on the bounding box of the geometry.

All the best,

Paul.

Tanks for the explanation.

So, if I want to correct this situation, I have to realign the pivot of the vray proxies to the bottom center of the objects ?

I remember trying something like that and messing completely my Forest object, I'll give it a try.
