Exporting Forest Items to Unreal using datasmith
« on: September 17, 2018, 07:40:03 PM »
Hi, I'm relatively new to Unreal but having been using both Railclone and Forestpro with 3Ds for a few years now.  We've recently been experimenting with exporting our scenes to Unreal Engine. I can export trees okay if I do them one at a time and they show up in Unreal pretty good. The minute I try to export any sort of ground cover/grass my 3Ds just hangs up on exporting to datasmith (and these aren't huge areas).  Is there a trick to exporting forest items to Unreal?

Hi, we have done only some basic tests with Datasmith.

I would suggest you contact directly with the Unreal team, because the tool is written and supported by them.
In this case we just provide a set of functions (API) to get the list of Forest instances, so they can export them. Same API is used for several renderers, which are working fine.

Thanks,
