FP and Vray RT
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:56:44 PM »
We are giving Vray 2 and RT a trial in our studio to see what it can and can't do. One of the major requirements (for us) is to have some kind of support for ForestPro. 99% of our projects include at least one FP (and/or Railclone) object.

Presently, VrayRT does not support FP (or RC) objects. Vlado as suggested that it might be possible, but it would require work on their side and the Itoosoft side. Any chance of getting your heads together and working on this?

Obviously, one of the key uses of FP is to create large distributions of potentially high polygon trees and bushes. Inevitably, this would cause VrayRT to fail as it can only do so much. If the FP objects had some other rollout that gives options for how they should be handled by vray/RT, this would be a possible workaround. Even if trees showed as every Nth polygon, or as a representative volume, or as a low detail point cloud, this would be very useful for scene setup.

Is there any chance FP could be made to work with RT?
Kind Regards,
Rich

As far as i know, VRay RT doesn't support external plugins. I think that Vlado had plans to provide a SDK for RT, but i guess that it's not available yet. Anyways, i will ask him.

Currently, you can render using a simplified model, settting Display->Render->Proxy to "Plant" (or other of the models available). This should work fine with VRay RT. If not, try changing Display->Render->Mode from "Automatic" to "Meshes".

OK - I've managed to get FP objects rendering with RT as meshes, which is great. However, if there was a way that they could display as point clouds in RT, that would be much much better as it would be less intensive. Possible?

No sorry, it's not possible. The engine of VRay RT works with 3D objects, but the Points clouds are a fake projection of the items in 2D, not a real geometry.
