FP loses connection to objects when merging files
« on: January 11, 2019, 11:27:08 PM »
Hi,

I want to merge a scene that replaces updated surfaces and areas that are used in FP objects. The surfaces and areas in the old scene files have the same name as the ones in the new (merging) scene.

How can I merge this file so FP uses the update surfaces and areas ? When I do this the surfaces and areas in the FP objects lose their connection or are simply removed and I have to reassign them, which can be difficult since there are a lot of them in each FP object!

Hope you can help, because this can save me a lot of work and headaches.

Thanks, E

Hi, i'm afraid there is not a simple way, because in Max the link between objects is based on an internal reference, not their name.
So, when objects are replaced in the merge process, they receive a new reference and are considered as new objects.

Depending of the number of areas and surfaces, this script would help you: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/replace-objects-script
