Why is not animated vegetation standard?
« on: November 30, 2019, 11:18:44 AM »
Hi! As technology progresses, I see the rise of animated objects all around in different software packages.

So why are we not seeing animated objects as standard in forest presets? (and also packages like vizpark realtrees etc)
So I guess I'll just have to ask: What is stopping you from making animated objects as standard in forest pack presets, and when can we expect it?
We're making loads of animations now, where we didn't before. Increased demand.

Are there any limitations, and why? I'd really like to have the grass, shrubs, flowers, bushes and trees that we use in our max/vray-scenes to be animated just out of the box. Like what you see in twinmotion, for an example.

We are experimenting with animated models for our libraries. Unfortunately the library becomes A LOT bigger. With that comes managing libraries and server bandwidth quite a bit more difficult.

Once model is animated, users will want them to be animated in some other way- so their leaves wiggle more or branches bend less...
Animation modes are not supported by all render engines.

Anyway, ForestPack supports Grow-FX animated models.
This way wind is adjustable on the fly, and filesize is minimal. However this is 3rd party plugin and we can't expect everyone to have it.

Hi guys,

Thanks for this thread, first I'd like to say what a fabulous product guys and thanks for the updates. I wouldn't use 3dsmax without this plugin!

I have to agree with GH3184, animating forest pack objects on the fly would be a massive plus. The crucial thing here is to make it simple like Twinmotion, Unreal etc. Perhaps start off with a very lo-poly library tailored for animation and sell it as an extra, I would happily pay for it if the quality was ok.
I have used Grow FX to animate trees and it's very unreliable, some of the trees will skip rendering on a farm, this cost me 8 hours yesterday going through frames and re-rendering skipped trees. It also a bit of an ache as it takes time adding the wind as you have to do this at trunk level, branch level and leaf level and of course with different settings. This has to be done to every unique tree. I dare not try it to the 40 bushes and flower types I had in my animation walkthru. I tried it on one tree and it let me down.
Whilst we are on here managing the library in FP is way too complicated and slow, is there plans to simplify this as well? Lastly the control panel needs streamlining, there are too many options, maybe have it's own modeless panel? I know it has legacy etc but people don't have too update if they don't want to.

Great effort guys, could we have an expected timeline update as well? Would help with structuring updates etc.

Super thanks and always look forward to your updates:)

There is no such plan in a short term.
