Obsolete data format found
« on: April 18, 2007, 12:49:56 AM »
I tried to open trees2.mat, and I got this massage: "Obsolete data format found". I push OK, and here you se the Material/Map-Browser.
It looks like all maps are black. Is that right? I use 3ds Max 9 and SP1.
Please look at the image below.

By the way, I have printed out all tutorials and all other pages, and are ready to read.
The software looks great.

About the warning message, it's normal because we built the libraries for Max 3.1, the oldest release supported by Forest, so all users may open it.... you can ignore the warning.

I don't know why do you get those black maps. I'm using Max 9 sp1 without problems. Can you see the map loading the material in the material editor ?

I found the answare myself.

In point nr. 3) in the email you sent me, you have written:
3) Copy libraries and textures to your 3D Studio's directories (c:\3dsmax\matlibs, c:\3dsmax\maps, etc.)

That is wrong.

I had to copy the files and folders to C:/forsetlib, because in the Bitmap Parameters, you already had linked to this path.

Now it works fine.

I also observe that the flower-materials are linked to D:ForestLib_Vol1\floverpot\bucket1.jpg
I thimk it is best to place all in C:/forestlib

Not really. You can place the textures in any folder, meanwhile the directory be defined as a map path, including it in Configure User Paths->External Files.
