FP7.0.8 doesn't keep the view
« on: March 19, 2021, 09:34:34 PM »
Hi,

I've updated FP 7.0.8, maybe it's me but it still doesn't keep the link of the camera view. When I am an perspective viewport I can see the all Distribution instead of "Limit to visibility).

Hope you will fix it in the next path.

Thank you
Nico

Hi,

To minimize the GPU overload, we have limited the viewport clipping to Camera views. It has not effect on perspective viewports.

Our idea is to use minimize the view updating as much as possible. We introduced this feature many years ago, when 3DS Max was very different, and the performance impact was not very noticeable.
But with the recent Max versions, Nitrous, and the new GPUs, the scenery has changed. There is a noticeable performance hit, if the Forest object must be updated in the GPU, with each view change.

Hi,

Ok, but in the previous path you fixed that and in another post just a few weeks ago about the same "issue" you said: We released this update (0.6) just yesterday so that the camera culling feature will only update when you switch between camera views. This means switching to perspective won't changing the culling which will remain fixed from the last camera you viewed the scene through.

How can I see the exact Distribution if in perspective change? It should keep fixed to the camera, and not in the entire Surface or...
Now when I click in the viewport "perspective" I can not see exactly where and how FP works. Only when I click in camera view. But in this way it's very hard to do some specific changes because of course as soon as I click in the viewport perspective the distribution change, and I need continuously to jump between the two viewports.

Hope you will fix that if not it is not easy to work in a lot of cases.

PS. it also change in VFB during the preview/render and it doesn't not stay fixed, so I need to keep the camera view active.

Thank you

Nico

Hi Nico.

You can see "limited" distribution in perspective/orthographic views. Here is illustration. It has two camera views top two viewports. And "Top" viewport and "Perspective" viewports at the bottom.

ForestPack updates view only when either of the camera is activated:

Please tell in more details what issues You are having, maybe attache a misbehaving scene.
Thank You for the feedback.

Hi Rokas,

Thank you for replying me.
Now I am not sure is an issue. FP updates only when I click on the camera view, if not it doesn't. Is it correct?
I did some screenshots but sorry I don't know how to attach them. It appears only IMG in my text and I don't know to choose the file.

So everytime I have to click on the camera view to update FP, is it not enough only to change the camera?...Correct?
Sorry maybe it's not an issue...

Thank you
Nico

Hi.

Yes, if You move camera in TOP viewport, forest pack does not update camera limits in realtime.
Because FP does not know which camera is of interest for You. It only knows when You are viewing from that camera.

You can switch to camera view and back again or adjust the view straight from Camera viewport.

Hi,

Thank you for the explanation. I thought that FP updates always and it does not need every time to go to the camera view.
But I noticed that, in my scene it seems FP lose the "link" randomly when I start/stop the interactive preview in VRay5.

Thank you
Nico

I did  two test...and yes, if I keep selected the camera view the VFB start with FP correct.
But if I click in perspective in the viewport looks ok (because there's the camera limit), but when I start the interactive VFB (with perspective selected) FP lost the camera limit.
So it need to keep also the active camera selected even when I use the VFB?...Is it correct this?

Only if You want that camera limits to be enabled.

Well..yes.
But it's a bit tricky/annoying every time to check that the camera view in selected everytime I use the VFB.
Is there a way to keep the limit always connected to the camera that is "active"?
