Pendant artwork - FPP, RC, neither?
« on: March 10, 2021, 09:04:31 PM »
Greetings,

It's been some time since making styles for me...possibly more than a year.

I recently need to create this artwork and wonder if RC or FPP will be able to accomplish, and if it is even a good idea!
The bits of geometry are simple, but I am not sure how to distribute them with varying size and rotations...

Thanks in advance...a lot!

Hi,

That's an interesting looking challenge. You might be able to do something with Forest Pack scattering on a surface, but it looks to me like you need some sort of volume packing, a feature that isn't currently supported by Forest Pack or RailClone. It might be worth experimenting with combining Forest Pack with PFlow or Tyflow perhaps.

Cheers,

Paul

Thank you Paul!

I have had no luck scattering them on the surface of the volume I modeled.

I have basically achieved what I need geometrically, using PCloud fill, however, I am not able to rotate each sphere randomly like the pictures.

Still working on that plastic material, though.

Here's the Pcloud test1...

Is there a tutorial for scattering onto a Pflow?
I tried it, used Pflow for distribution mode and picked my sphere object as the geometry.
But the Forest says zero items and "reference object is not defined."  This confused me because I chose "Pflow" mode, not "Reference object."
I tried fiddling with the FPP settings, but pretty much nothing changed.

Thanks again,

I see you have a Surface in the Surface list. If you remove that it should work as expected.

Hope that helps,

Paul

I actually tried that, too.
I'll try to make a new FPP, and try again.

Thank you!

Hmmm, well, no changes...
I must admit, that I am not extensively experienced with PFlow, so that could be wrong, but it seems okay.

Thank you

Apologies, I've only just spotted you are using a PCloud object. Unfortunately only PFlow is supported, (and now TyFlow with Forest Pack 7). Other particle types won't currently work. You could forget Forest Pack and do this entirely in PCloud or use Forest Pack but create the same effect as you have in PCloud with Pflow. Attached is a file with both those options.

Hope it helps,
Paul

Aha, thanks a lot, that really helped my state of mind!

I'll check that file out, although I recently discovered how the control the rotations in the Pcloud object.

Thanks again  8)

Okay, Paul that helped a lot.  I got it working using PFlow instead of PCloud.

Best regards and many thanks!
