Correct Z-Alignment when scattering leaves over grass
« on: March 27, 2017, 12:21:35 PM »
Hi there,

Something I haven't managed to figure out yet in FP:

How do you correctly scatter leaves over another Forest Pack grass object so that the leaves are correctly placed above the grass blades as they themselves scale on the z-axis, eg from 60-120%?

I have tried selecting the FP grass object as my surface but it doesn't work. And then obviously manually adjusting the z-offset/translation of the leaves themselves but this is hit and miss.

Thanks,
Terri

Hi Terri,

Usually it's better to distribute already prepared set (like bundled Maple over grass / Oak over grass) within one Forest object to avoid this kind of issue as it might be tricky to get it aligned when using different Distribution Maps / Densities etc..

An option might be to make a copy of the Forest object with grass clumps and set the Display - Viewport - Proxy: Box & Render - Proxy: Box. This can be used as a Surface for the Forest object with leaves (and as non-renderable). Attaching a sample scene using this work-flow. Hope you'll find it useful.

Best regards,

Thank you Michael. I think option 2 works best as I almost never use oak or maple leaves in my renders, and also often add other grass varieties to my lawns.

But it would be great if you guys could include some other leaf varieties in your prepared sets!

Thanks again
