Glue Trees To Terrain/Surface?

OP1209:
To what type of surface will the Forest Pack Trees glue?  I have imported a triangulated terrain from AutoCad 2004, which was originally generated from contours in Land Desktop 2004.  The Pick button under 'Surface' is not active, so I can't glue the trees down.  Any ideas?
