Title: How to avoid jagged Edge on Forest Objects?
Post by: suppenhuhn on August 09, 2014, 10:55:09 AM
Hi!

I'm using ForestPack Pro with Max 2015 and MentalRay. I have always the following problem:

Very dense forest objects like gravel or grass using spline aereas always got jaggy edges - by the way this effect is very extrem using the lawn presets. If i switch the boundary checking from point to size the jagged edges are not gone - they only change "into" the spline area.

Which settings are required to avoid this effect? I want the forest object to fill exactly the area to the border but not beyond.

Thanks in advance.
Robert

Thank you for the answer. Found that this tutorial : http://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_grass_edges.php (http://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_grass_edges.php) is a good way to fix that problem - but it's "only" a little workaround than a nice solution ;)

Thank you!

try boundary checking to be the "size" of the object instead of the point(pivot)

Is it a render problem possibly?

I had rough (noisy) renders with camera motion.

Raising the Mental Ray quality of aliasing to 16 and 16 cleaned up ALL the roughness and texture noise.

Hope that helps.
