Some forest were not built correctly in the last render - Popup
« on: January 15, 2021, 03:09:31 PM »
Hi Itoo,

2 things about this "error" that is bothering me lately:

- You only get this at the end of the rendering, so you only know something failed after you've waited for the render to complete. Can this check happen in the beginning of the render? I know that it should be visible in the render but sometimes it's not immediately obvious if you have a complex scene to render.
- The dialog at the end of the render doesn't dissapear automatically. So when you're batch rendering (for instance with SceneManager from Pulze), and the first render 'failed' because the dialog needs to be OK-ed first for Max to terminate the rendering (unloading memory, saving,...), this means all the other renders won't render either. Even though they might have different FPs or parameters that would've rendered anyway.

Maybe this could be optional as a dialog and more like a message in the renderlog?

Thank you kindly!

Hi, thanks for your suggestions:

We'll check what can be done. One problem with 3DS Max renderers, is that each one uses a slightly different implementation for Forest Pack, and there is not an unique 'render starts' point.
Instead, the 'render ends' condition is less problematic, and can be detected easily for all renderers.

Forest already detects when render is running on Quiet mode, to disable popups and send messages only to the log. This works for example with Backburner, Distributed Renderer, and others.
Unfortunately we cannot detect this condition if the tool doesn't use the the standard Quiet mode.

If that helps, there is an option to disable all Forest popups: it can be found at General->Settings.
