Title: Insane MutliSubMats
Post by: Asplan Viak on May 07, 2015, 12:55:29 PM
I have made a (generic scandinavian forest) preset with a bunch of trees from various sources, all vray proxies, with cleaned\tidy materials.
Adding this forest to my scene and then trying to update any of the models results in an insane material.
What is the best way of cleaning this up, as it for instance contains a load of duplicate materials listed after each other.
I would like it to reset its material, and reload it properly.
Any ideas?
Here is an idea of what it creates:

Hi,

As mentioned in our on-line reference guide (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Add+Geometry#AddGeometry-GeometryList): "Forest needs to build a single multi-sub object material combining all the materials applied to the items in the Geometry list. Because creating this material and correctly assigning the material IDs manually would be a complex and time consuming procedure, Forest performs this action automatically (subsequently applying materials to items)."

Please feel free to check this "Reassign Material? (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=944.msg3212#msg3212)" related post regarding this topic (the right procedure to change any material should be to replace it in the Geometry list).

By default Forest uses the material defined at Geometry->Material, and the multi-sub is also updated on-the-fly. If you want to use directly the material assigned to the object, just clear the Geometry->Material parameter.

Also, the default behaviour of Forest Pack that is every time rebuilding and creating it's own automated Multi/Sub-Object material can be switched off by unchecking the Consolidate Materials option under Geometry tab. Generally we don't recommend it but it in some cases might be helpful.

For further clarifying, please feel free to send us your scene through WeTransfer (https://www.wetransfer.com/) to support@itoosoft.com to check it here.

Kind regards,
