Distributed rendering with 3ds Max 2016
« on: June 26, 2015, 04:04:17 PM »
I have recently upgraded from 3ds Max 2014 to 2016.  I have also installed Forest Pack v4.4.0.  I have been unable to get distributed rendering with backburner to work when rendering scenes with Forest Pack objects.  I am using mental ray.
Things I have tried:
1. Rendering a scene from 3ds Max 2016 with no Forest Pack objects.  Success.
2. Rendering a scene from 3ds Max 2014 with Forest Pack objects.  Success.
3. Rendering the same scene from 3ds Max 2016 with Forest Pack object.  Fail.
4. Following the instructions in this post : https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/distributed-rendering-issues/msg7199/#msg7199

Almost all machines failed when trying the initial teapot test.  I have tried to reinstall a number of times, following the instructions in step A, but without success.  One machine did render the teapots, but when I tried step B it did not work.
The error in backburner says: "ERR 3dsmax adapter error : Autodesk 3dsMax 18.0 reported error: An unexpected exception has occurred in the network renderer and it is terminating. 3dsmax adapter error : The pipe has been ended.  :109 ".  On screen it looks like 3ds Max is opened and it does the translating scene, etc., but it fails and closes before rendering.
Can you help with this?
Thanks

Hi, please apply the patch attached to this post. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

We like to release an public update in the next days, as soon as we confirm that the fix works.

Thanks for the response.  I have tried the patch and it has improved matters in that the PCs will now render the teapot test (test 4 in my previous post).  Unfotunately when I replace the teapots with HQ trees, either free ones or ones I have purchased, the success rate goes down, with some PCs failing and some succeeding.  I have not noticed a pattern in which PCs succeed or fail and it varies with the different tests.  It is still the case that none of them work with my original 2014 scene which succeeded in test 2 in my previous post and failed in test 3.  Do you have any other suggestions?  Can I send you something which would help diagnose the problem?
Thanks.

Please, send us your original scene to support@itoosoft.com. You can delete non-essential objects is that doesn't affect the result.
There is some problem with 2016 and Mental Ray, but unfortunately we could not reproduce yet the crash in our test scenes.

Thanks,
