Title: Lag when selecting forest object
Post by: KellyC on July 19, 2012, 07:54:37 PM
This is not a major issue but it is slightly annoying. When I select any forest object in any scene, regardless of the complexity of scene or forest object, there is a 4 or 5 second lag before the forest object shows up in the modifier list. My Machine is a dual xeon x5650 with 24gb of ram a gtx 550 ti running windows 7, and this also happens on a i7-2600 16gbs ram Quadro 4000 win 7 machine. our licenses are network license running on a server separate from the workstations. Any suggestions?

That lag time is not normal. Here it doesn't take more than one second for a medium size scene, or less if the rollouts are initially closed (Max 2013, i7-980x, Win 7, Quadro 4000).

What Max version do you use ?
Nitrous or other graphics driver ?
Does it happen in all Display modes (Points-cloud, proxy...) ?
And resetting Max and creating a default Forest object ?

I have done more tests, checking it there was some difference keeping opened several rollouts, but there is not lag.

your video is much faster than what I am getting. I'm using max 2013 currently but it was doing this same thing with max 2012. I'm using the Nitrous driver, but I just tested it and it's happening with Direct3D as well. It happens in all display modes. If i just draw a circle and add a forest object to it the the object will populate immediately but there will be a lag when bringing up the interface. This is happening on both workstations we have running forest.

I just send you by e-mail a custom Forest plugin. It is modified to register the initialization process. Please, do this:

- In Max 2012-64 bit, make a backup copy of <maxdir>\plugins\ForestPackPro.dlo
- Overwrite the plugin with the custom version
- Run Max and create a default Forest object
- Goto to the Modify panel, and wait until the Forest rollouts are initialized
- Close Max
- You will find a log file in c:\fp.log. Send it to us
- Delete the custom plugin and restore the copy (the custom version should not be used for production).

Thanks. I just sent it back to the support@itoosoft.com address. I'm attaching it here as well.
