Laubwerk convex hull
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:28:49 AM »
Hi,

I tried to custom place 1 tree from laubwerk freebie 1.0.8 (as a test) via forest pro - via library and render with vrayRT or standard vray.
maybe I am missing something but even if I use ‘mesh’ display option for both viewport and render, it still renders as a convex hull in both renderers.

Any hints please?

FP4.1.5
Laub Freebie 1.0.8
Max2014
Vray 2.40.04

Thank you

V-Ray RT doesn't work well, but V-Ray standard renders fine here using your same configuration.
Please, try rendering the attached test scene and tell me what is the result.

P.S.: we'll check the V-Ray RT issue. This renderer uses a particular approach to render the Forest items.

Hi Carlos,

mistake on my side.
your scene renders correctly, with standard renderer.
my original scene renders fine as well.

the convex hull keeps appearing when rendering with vray RT,
in my first post i misplaced the render engines. i mentioned vray standard and vray RT,
it supposed to be VrayRT CPU and VrayRT GPU.
i remember from the past that RT on CPU used to be very close to vray standard in terms of rendering results, hence the expectations regarding FPP integration :)

thanks anyway!

cheers

Hi Carlos again,

i found a way around - and it works with vray RT!
i tried to plant one tree via laubwerk - place it somewhere to the scene.
then in modify panel i set up mesh for both - viewport mode and render mode.
then went to FP, placed a random HQplant tree, in modify panel added the laubwerk tree by clicking on the laubwerk tree already in the scene,
then removed the HQ tree - and voila, it works even in vrayRT cpu and gpu!

hope it helps :)

cheers

Thanks for the trick. :)

The problem with VRay RT is that we have not control over the scattering process, because it's done directly by ChaosGroup. It seems the engine is taking the last mesh generated by Laubwerk, instead the specific mesh for rendering.
