Library editor feature !
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:55:55 PM »
Since I read somewhere that the library system that will support custom meshes is still open for features, here they come:

- possibility the define custom (prerendered) thumbnails
- save selected mesh as library item and have possibility the create VRay and MRProxy at the same time
- possiblity to choose from a material pool per object (some explanation: for proxied trees you need to define a multisubobject with probably a bark and leaf material; often you can have a completely different look for the same mesh by just making another material. Having an "attached" material library is more convenient then a seperate "Max" one)
- since you're making a mesh library system, why not make it so you can store all kinds of objects in it: furniture, etc. So you should also be able to just place library elements in the scene !

There's more coming...

- a list of the last used trees would be fine (maybe also cached trees which were picked from scene objects)

- a kind of search function ..maybe with predefined tags?
I think it's important to add usability instead of new features ..make the library easy to use and easy to find what is needed and you have won.
A tagsystem would make it easy to work with unorganised groups and libraries.
I also think that a tag system which holds informations about HOW or WHERE to use the trees ( for a mixed forest, for the garden, for a park ...) would be better then a system which gives you informations how a tree looks like.

btw: you can change the thumbnail with the actual library.

I'm kind of a newbie with Forest Pro, so thanks for the hint.

As an artist I want to define a look at all time by getting inspiration from what I see, not just a preset for filling in things automatically. Of course a tag system has its advantages but it depends on the use whether the one will be better then the other ! I have been making a lot of prests in the last (almost) 20 years, to make my life easier, but each time I make new ones because I need things to look very specific.
