Library management
« on: April 14, 2021, 05:22:23 AM »
I'm trying to add my Maxtree libraries to Forest Pro 7 and apaprently the only way of doing it is to add each folder individually, rather than the just the parent folder. When I try to use the parent folder it works but max doesn't find any of the maps inside the "maps" folders in each subfolder.

The screenshot shows the individual folders i've added manually (circled in red). The list beneath that is how I'd like to see them. This would save having to add each library manually, and then menu diving when trying to navigate through libraries.

Is there something I've missing here, or is there just no way of doing this besides copying the maps from each library into a single "maps" folder?

Hi. Bottom structure is the one to go:

Whether forest pack searches and adds map paths to "Extenal files" list is determined in forestpack.ini
%localappdata%\Autodesk\3dsmax\<max version>\ENU\en-US\plugcfg

Make sure Yours is set to 1.

In FP7 this setting can be accessed via library browser:

Hope this solves it for You.

Hey :) I just stumbled across this thread and although I´ve tried multiple ways already I can´t really figure out what´s the correct folder structure for maxtree folders.

I have one folder that´s called "plants". Inside of that folder I have multiple "Maxtree" folders which contain subfolders like "MT_PM_V33_Forest_Pack_Mesh_Corona", "MT_PM_V33_Forest_Pack_Mesh_VRay", "MT_PM_V33_Maps", etc.. What I´ve always done so far was selecting (in my case) the "MT_PM_V33_Forest_Pack_Mesh_VRay" folder as location but then I end up with dozents of separate Maxtree folders in my library browser and I always have to use my "relink bitmap" script to relink the bitmaps of my plants. I wonder what´s the correct folder structure in the Windows Explorer and which path you need to use in the Forest Pack library browser. I´ve tried copying the "MT_PM_V33_Maps" folder inside of the "MT_PM_V33_Forest_Pack_Mesh_VRay" folder but that didn´t work either.

I also tried renaming the "MT_PM_V33_Maps" to just "maps" and put it inside of the "MT_PM_V33_Forest_Pack_Mesh_VRay" folder since under the Forest Pack library browser it says "Add 'maps' folders to 3DS Max texture paths" but that didn´t work.

What am I doing wrong here?

I would recommend this folder structure:

-Plants
--Maxtree
---MTPM_V33
----Maps
----Matlib
---MTPM_V34
----Maps
----Matlib
---MTPM_V35
----Maps
----Matlib
--Evermotion
---001
----Maps

ETC.

maps folder should be in the same folder as index.xml file is

And in forest pack Library browser I would add Plants/Maxtree folder. As well as Plants/Evermotion.

Hope this helps
