Surface Planes and Forest Tree Pro
« on: January 19, 2011, 12:11:38 AM »
Im finally using the surfaces due to site conditions... I see how the trees attach to the surface...

My problem...

I need to have each group move down in the Z direction slightly.  They look like they are hovering over the surface...

When I try moving them down after attaching to the surface, I see they move down in viewport but render as if they havent moved.

The only option I see the Z direction offset is under the Geometry Tab. That doesnt seem to do anything either...

Is this not an option?

Thank you,

Arkitec

What type of objects are you using: billboards, meshes or proxies ?, what render engine ?

I just test the Z Offset parameter, and it seems to work fine. Besides it, for Custom Objects you can move the pivot point of the source object.

Please, post a test scene to check the problem.

The objects are billboards... Custom Billboards but billboards.

Using Max 2011 with Vray Sp1.5 64 bit machine.

Ok, please post a test scene using your billboards.

If that helps, i've attached my own test. It uses Geometry->Z-Offset in Max 2011, VRay 1.5 SP5, Forest 3.4.

Ok, well I will chalk this one up to user error...

Typically, I move the line associated with Forest objects... which in turn moves the trees.. If I move the Forest tree objects, they stay in the same position.

Z depth distance does work when attached to a plane...  My problem i didnt catch.. I had multipe billboars per object and didnt realize i could move them independently from each.. Therfore, looked like it didnt change... Once I changed all three in the z depth.. all worked...

Thank you for the responses though...
