License working remotely and office
« on: September 08, 2021, 04:30:31 PM »
Hi,

Sorry for the dumb question.... but here I go.

I work at the office and at home with different PCs. How should I use the license manager to have on both sides the forest pack pro?

Many thanks,
Nikola

Hi Nikola,

Accessing the license from a remote location (your home) shouldn't be any problem as the Network license can be used from any location (so, it can be used from your home computer). The License Server is by default using port 16720, so this should be accessible (ideally by using a secured VPN connection, but it's not necessary). The right network configuration is always very specific for any network as the correct set-up of the connection will depend on all firewall/anti-virus solutions you are using. Basically, you'll need to open port 16720 on the license server for the remote user. It must be open both for TCP and UDP (for example Windows Firewall/anti-virus software could be blocking the connection for this port).

You can check the connection by using any TCP scanning tool (like nmap) and test the server port from your workstation this way:

nmap -p 16720 <your-server-address>

It should return the following result:

PORT STATE SERVICE
16720/tcp open unknown

The network license on your home computer should be set to the IP of the licensing server rather than finding it automatically. That could be done during the installation or by using the Change License Mode wizard after setting Network license mode in Configure the Network License window.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,
