Animating the slice modifier with Forest objects?
« on: September 03, 2009, 06:07:51 PM »
Hi All,

New here.. Just got Forest Pro and have been animating slice modifers to reveal "forests" Works fine in the view port but not at render time, its as if the modifier is not there??

Anyone have any ideas on this?

By default Forest builds the trees creating native instances of the render engine (VRay or Mental Ray). This mode allows to render heavy geometry, but is not compatible with modifiers as Slice, that only works with meshes.

You can force Forest to work in mesh mode, setting the parameter 'Mode' in Display rollout to 'Meshes'. But doing this, the rendering capabilities will be limited by the maximum number of faces that the renderer can handle (since the plugin creates a single mesh for all the trees).

As alternative, you would to animate the area splines (Include or Exclude) to reveal the trees.

Yes that works, I only need to do it on a small area. Many thanks  :)
