Forest custom distribution map problem.
« on: January 28, 2015, 11:08:18 AM »
Hi,

i have very annoying problem with ForestPackPro. I have a terrain with dirt road in the middle, and i have black and white map to mask out the road. When i apply that map as a custom distribution map, trees do not appear where the road is, BUT the original distribution map gets completely ignored, and instead, it uses the grid mode. In grid mode, my tree instances are aligned in a perfect grid, so it looks very ugly... more like precise computer chip than random forest. So i use transform translation offset to move trees around so they are more random, and not in straight horizontal or vertical lines. The problem with this is that the custom distribution map gets applied BEFORE random translation, so enabling random translation moves some of the trees back in the middle of the road. >:(

Hi,

This is possible by using a Composite map as described in this thread.

"In this case it would be necessary two maps: one for mask and other for distribution.
Although Forest cannot use more than one map, it can be done combining mask and distribution with a "Composite" texture, using it as Distribution->Map. In case that you need a custom map by area, just assign it to Areas->Override Dist.Map."

Hope it'll help you.

S pozdravem,
