4.3.6 appear in viewport - will not render
« on: April 12, 2015, 09:53:58 AM »
Hello!
I recently open an old scene I made with forest 4.3.4 at the time. For some reason it will not render one specific forest object.
It is displayed correctly in the viewport. The source object is fine and taken from a preset (Common grass 01 Detail to be exact).
No missing paths or anything.
Pressing on Forest Stats shows no error or anything.
It is not hidden from camera and not set to exclude.

V-Ray 3.10.03 Nightly 25622.
Forest Pro 4.3.6.

Hi, Please, send us a minimal scene with the Forest object to support@itoosoft.com. We'll check it.

Thanks,

Thanks,

For some reason it solved itself. I just restored my system image to my previous backup (which I made April 7th 2015) and it came back to life.
Same scene, same version of Forest and V-Ray. I will send a scene if it appears again  :-\

Happened again on a different scene. The first time after I load any scene it works fine. As soon as I reopen any scene a random Forest Object stops rendering.
For some reason, this Forest object will not render on local machine, but renders on my two other slaves without a problem.
After saving a damaged scene and restoring the system image - Forest render correctly on local machine.

???

There is not any reason for such behaviour, except a licensing issue (which should not be your case). But the only way to know what is happening is checking the scene.

My FP subscription is over a month ago, I hope it is not related in some way.
I will try to strip one of the scenes any time soon and will send you.

No, don't worry. You can use your license without problems, regardless of its subscription date.

Thanks, i've received the scene. There are not license problems, i'm rendering it using your same settings (Max 2014, V-Ray 3.10.03, FP 4.3.6), but everything seems correct.

Please, try these tests:

- Use V-Ray 3.10.03 from the ChaosGoup site (not nightly build).
- Render it in your local machine but using a non-interactive mode (batch render, configure it as a Backburner node, etc.)
- Render both the original scene and the file you sent me (saved using FP 4.3.6).

Is there some difference ?

None of the above changed the situation.
1. V-Ray 3.10.03 release (not nightly) - no change.
2. Batch render - still nothing. Even if it worked, I need an interactive mode. I don't use batch in every project.
3. Both files are sort of an "ON/OFF" situation. Sometimes they render, sometimes they don't.

It's a strange issue. I cannot find any cause for that, and it's not reproducible here either.

Please, do this:

1) Set the General->Seed parameter to 9999. That will create a log file in C:\forestDebug.log.
2) Render the scene. If it fails, send us both the Forest and V-Ray logs.
3) If it renders well, close Max, delete both log files and repeat.

Thanks.

I restored my system to an older state after I sent the file to you.. I had to keep working  :-\
The image (without the problem) was from December 2014 which still had V-Ray 3.00.08 (not sure if release or nightly though) and FP 4.3.4.
(compared to my March 2015 image which has V-Ray 3.10.03 Nightly 25622 and FP 4.3.6)

I upgraded as usual and its fine since.
Will report as soon as it shows up again.
