include / exclude area problem with color distribution
« on: September 17, 2012, 05:59:22 PM »
We are having a problem with using the include / exlude areas with specific items / objects. Especially when using a colored distribution map for the distribution of the objects, it seems that it´s not possible to use the "select models" feature in the "areas" panel. At least they don´t have any influence.

I´ve attached a test-scene that should show the problem. Could this be a bug ?

This is tested on max 2011 64 with FPP 3.9.2 and 3.9.4

No, the colored distribution map doesn't use the "select models" feature. In fact, it is applied only in the random Diversity mode.

I'm not sure if we could fix it, because the way both features work. We will take a look to it.

As workaround you would generate a separate Forest object for this specific area.

Thanks! We have a very complex setup for our feature film and already have multiple forest objects. Handling
these fpps in multiple scenes and shot would mean a lot of hand editing that we need to avoid. That´s why
we are using the color distribution to avoid using multiple fpps.

If you would be able to implement this feature, it would really help us a lot to simplify our scenes.

Best,
Martin

Hi, can you say if you will be able to implement this feature ? If not we would need to find a
different, less flexible, solution.

Martin

Sincerely, i don't know. Forest is currently so complex, that even minimal changes may have a large impact in other parts of the code. We must plan carefully each new feature.

In any case, i suggest you find an alternative workflow. The new features may take some time to be implemented (months), and there are tons of them in the wishlist.

Hi Carlos,

thanks for your response. What a pity, but I understand. Maybe think about disabling this feature when it is not
working or not available in combination with color distribution. It would avoid confusion.

Martin

Yes, if it is not possible to use both features simultaneously, we will lock the combination.
