Disappearing Forests
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:10:52 AM »
Hi,

I am using Forest 3 on a pretty heavy scene, which I have populated with 2 different types splines.
The first, for closed splines, I use the 'Include Area' which works just fine
For the second type I use open splines, and select the 'Following Path' option . I find that when I close the max file and reopen, the forest tends to disappear, and will only reappear when I usually pick the spline again.

This is rather annoying, as I will sometimes render a scene, only to find out the spline path forest has not appeared on screen (or in renders)

Has anybody else had this problem? Is it a known bug?

Regards

OK

I've managed to replicate the problem.

Draw an open spline, create a forest object and select the spline.
Save the file, and the re-open

The forest has disappeared, to make forest re-appear, select the spline while the Modify tab is active.
Forest will not reappear when in Create tab.

Agreed. We can confirm it as a bug, but not reported until now.

We will fix for Forest 3.03. Unfortunately there is not a workaround for current version, at least until we find where is the problem.

Thanks Carlos,

Any idea as to when 3.03 will be released?

As a workaround, it is possible to take your open splines, and apply on outline to the splines in 'Spline' sub-object mode and re-apply the spline in the Forest 'Area' pulldown to the 'Include Spline', instead of 'Following Path'.

Works close enough for my purposes.
