MAX crashes when Pick surface is used

Working in MAX 4 with forest 2.4 registered version. I have a surface that is a mesh type, used as my terrain. Every time I try to pick the surface, Max crashes. I tried collapsing the mesh down to simple editable mesh but still the same result. I don't even have anything in the stack other than edit-mesh and UVW mapping!?!

Running on a deadline here. Help, please!

I believe I have diagnosed the problem. If even a single point of the spline hangs outside the XY limits of the mesh, the program crashes completely. As soon as I fixed the spline, the program worked, but when it wasn't working as described above, it completely crashed MAX with no explanation.

I cannot to reproduce the problem. As you can see in the attached image, the spline is outside the boundaries of the mesh, but Forest works fine.

Perhaps is a problem only with some certain splines and meshes, i don't know. If you can send me your scene, i would like to check it.
