Title: Modify material from library
Post by: oligophant on June 11, 2016, 07:32:31 PM
I have setup my own tree objects to build a library to your system.
How can i edit the materials in the library?
I have prepared the library to use in with hiquality settings (subtle reflections, specular, etc), but right now im making an animation and i have to low the quality to decrease render times and tweek materials.
Please a step by step procedure its required.

There are two ways to do it:

a) Assign materials directly to the objects, within the .max file you created to store the library items.
b) For each library item, edit its properties in the browser (right click->properties), turn on "Override material" and select the .mat and material.

If you are not familiar with the library creation, please take a look to this tutorial (http://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_creating_libraries.php). All procedures are also described in the library documentation (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Editing+a+library).

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the answer, its kind of long way to just asign a new mat...

But while on subject.

I created a tree library with a (for my case) early test material, then on my scene I choose those created library tree. When i edit the source 3d files with the early test material , Q: How can i "update" the already library trees on a current scene?, i just asume that if they're referenced, forest "just" load the archives and reads the updated material. Or maybe I need to delete the trees from the geometry rollout and bring them back again?.

Not exactly, while importing objects by using the Library Browser (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Library+Browser) interface, even by using the 3D Objects creation - XRef to library option, a material is created in the scene & assigned to imported item within the Forest object. There's no need to delete such object(s) - this item should be imported again with the On Duplicate Material - Replace from Library option marked.

If you're interested in using a referenced material, please use the 3ds max's - References - XRef Objects interface to get the XRef Material type linked to your "Custom Object". This way any changes will be reflected.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Thanks, while using it, i discover that i HAVE to press the import button rather than just doble click the icon and the new updated material kick in the scene - Is this intended or a bug?(the import button part)

Q: On import from scene dialog box, How can i sort it by alphabetical order?, This is a MUST have for me.

The Import Selected button / double clicking the item should be equivalent. Would you mind to specify your configuration (which 3ds Max / Forest Pack Pro releases are you using)? Thanks in advance.

By having the Display Subtree option disabled, Sort (Alphabetical, By Type, By Color) settings will became available.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The Library Browser's Import from Scene window uses the default 3ds max's Sort Descending Age. We'll check what can be done for future releases to allow sorting changes.
