Modifying the trees library
« on: July 31, 2011, 01:53:46 PM »
Hello,

how can I save my modifications to a tree in the library? I have mapped secondary branches in "maple" tree and would be very useful to save the changes directly to library. Is possible to do this? (apart from replacing the scene in my HD)

Regards

Yes, you can save modifications, but before you need to copy the library to user's directories. To do this select the HQ Library in the tree and drag'n'drop to some green folder in user's libraries and modify it.

Be beware that libraries only store properties and thubnails, the real object it is allways referenced to a .max scene, that can be inside of the catalog folder (as HQ Plants free), or can be on a external location. You can define your own libraries in any of both ways, using absolute or relatives routes in the max filename fields.

You can also create empty libraries to add full new items or import elements from existing max scenes. For more details about libraries and file structures, please see this page:

Thanks, just one more question:

to copy the library to another computer for net render I should copy the entire folder structure or may I have to do anything more?

For network rendering it is not allways neccesary to copy the libraries to the render node. When you select a item from library, the geometry and materials are merged to the scene so the library itself is not fully neccesary.

One exception for this are the texture maps. For the HQ Plants free, the maps are included into the library folder and a small maxscript included with the library, check for the maps when your import the first tree. For network rendering you could copy these maps to your shared maps folders, or run the library once time on every node. For HQ Catalog libraries the maps also checked and installed on the same way. For your own libraries there is not maxscripts that does this, so your must take care of these.

Other exception is the Xref import mode (available from library settings). When it is active the trees are XRef'd to the scene so you'll need to install them on all nodes or use shared folders as for the maps.

I have a similar question:

is it necessary to install the new HQCatalog on the rendernodes if using HQGrass through this catalogue?

It's not necessary, but you should to make available the grass texture maps to the render nodes, besides the max files if the Library is working in XRef mode (this can be defined with the settings button in the Library Browser).

So, Forest with HQ Catalog has the same requirements as if you use the HQ Grass models as stand alone objects in your scene.
