Materials
« on: November 15, 2011, 10:50:11 AM »
Hi Dear iToo Team
I would like to solve this problem. We have created a field of proxies by function create trees. In this filed is a few different type of proxies. Each of those has own material. That is right.
But now, I would like to select by area selection some of those proxies and assign them one material, but keep  original materials in other objects- non selected objects. The problem is, If I select just a few proxies and assign them in material editor a new material then all of objects are covered by that material. Not only those selected objects.

We have been creating perfumery store.

Is not possible to change the materials for each individual element, however you can create multiple geometres in the Geometry panel with the same proxy and override each one with a different material. After this you can change the aspect of groups of elements using the custom edit mode:

  • Enable custom edit mode
  • In the viewport, select by area all elements to change
  • Enter a geometry ID in the propeties selection (as shown in the image)

In this same panel, you can apply also variations in scale by element if neccesary.

hmmm. I was afraid that there is no suitable solution for our project.  soo we have to do a few forest nodes. It is not ideal.

Also, I would appreciate to work with proxies in Custom edit mode like in a "View mode". I mean, If I rotate the group of proxies, rotation should be done round one pivot point, not round pivot point of each proxy. So forest should respect local and view mode for pivot points.

You are right, the rotation mode should respect the active reference coordinate system. We will try to fix it.

I don't know your project's details but... did you take a look to Forest Color ? You would use it to create color variations without modifying the materials.
