Problem with scene. strange scaling issues
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:59:17 AM »
I have this scene.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ugb71pi662wm870/Udklip.PNG

I can not scatter the objects in a right way. I have a mesh which is correct in meter size. But I cannot scatter anything with forest pro. I get this huge "F" which normally use to be small. What can ce the problem with my scene.

I have imported this mesh from microstation into 3ds max as a fbx file.

Very frustrating that I cannot find the answer.

Have you tried to Xform reset your plane ?

Maybe this helps

It also may be a problem with the surface's normals. If the XForm reset doesn't work, try applying a Normal modifier as well.

In any case, if you don't solve the problem, please send us the surface and we will check it.

It reverses the Normal vectors of the surface, this is a common issue on imported surfaces.

PD: There is a Normal vector for each face of a mesh, and it is perpendicular to the face. Commonly is used to define the "Front" and "Back" sides.

I actually have one mesh which I still gives me problems. I have first applied xform and then normal modifier. No luck.

What is the right way to import from microstation to 3ds max. I have exportet as a fbx file, and that seems to be the right way (except these problems).

Can anyone help me with a step by step guide after exporting from microstation (fbx) to correct this file before working with it, because it seems that the file is
pretty messed up.

I have saved the one mesh which I can not get to work if anyone would like to see.

Also I have the direct export from micro. (fbx)

I have not experience with Microstation, but i think FBX should be the preferred method. Sometimes it is not possible to avoid these problems, regardless of the importing procedure.

Please, send us the mesh to support@itoosoft.com. We'll take a look to it.

Hi
I have examined the scene that you sent us, and I see that the surfaces have reversed normals. For some unknown reason, does not work the usual procedure of selecting the faces and apply a "flip". However, if we convert surface in "editpoly" instead of "editmesh", we can select all the faces and apply the "flip". After this, we can do  the normal procedure.
