My own Distribution Map
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:28:31 PM »
I try to make my own distribution map, directly from an orthofoto, a vertical air photo.
I use Photoshop and wondering if it is easy to arrange the placing  of the trees, with the aid of my own distribution map.
Here you see the original orthophoto, with and without Photoshop-filters, that I use.
1: Will this work?
2: Does the size have to be limited to only 100x100 pixels, or is it OK to make it larger?
3: Does it have to be only two-color black and white and in BMP-format?
4: Will this image (Distribution Map) fit to the hole area, in this case a rectangle ?

Regards

Hi,

Yes, you can use an othophoto as distribution map. There are not limits of size or colors, Forest converts the image to two-color using the parameter 'Threshold level'.

To adjust the image to fit the area, i suggest you use 'Fit to scene' buttons. Use Pick Start/Pick End to select on the scene the position of two opposite corners of the map, and the plugin will calculate the offset and size parameters automatically.
